Liuzhou's Geography
|
Liuzhou lies between 108°.53'-109°.45' E and 23°.54'-24°.50' N on the River Liu in central Guangxi, 265 km north of the provincial capital, Nanning and 150km south of Guilin, the main tourist centre. It is the second largest city in Guangxi and the main industrial centre. Liuzhou is 3535 kilometres from Beijing, 2033 km from Shanghai and 727 km from Hong Kong. Somewhat confusingly, as with all Chinese cities, the name, Liuzhou can refer to both the city and to the prefecture. The prefecture stretches all the way north to the border with Hunan and includes the six counties, Liujiang, Liucheng, Sanjiang, Rongshui, Rong’an and Luzhai. As with much of Guangxi, the landscape around Liuzhou is a mix of rolling hills, mountain peaks, caves and karst scenery.

Liuzhou lies just to the north of the Tropic of Cancer in the subtropical monsoon climatic belt. Summers are long and hot, while winters are cool. It rarely drops below zero, but can feel a lot colder than it really is. Remember few buildings are heated and it can be difficult to get away from the cold. Average data is below.
