Eating and Drinking |

I'm not a bar person! Problem is, I like beer. Over-priced bad beer doesn't turn me on. I mean, Sol! What is that? So, I don't know most of the bars in town. If you have a favourite bar, let me know about it. I'll include it here.
Cafés are a better bet. (And most will do you a beer, too). In the last few years there has been a big fashion for drinking coffee. Coffee places have sprung up (and just as quickly disappeared) all over town. These vary enormously in size, ambiance and especially, in coffee quality. If you have any favourites, for whatever reason, the again please let me know. I can't visit them all myself.

One of the most pleasant coffee bars in Liuzhou, Blue Mountain is not far from the city centre and offers a peaceful haven. A wide variety of good coffees and snacks. While the service is very good, they also have a very relaxed attitude in that they don't harass you and are happy to leave you to sip over your coffee as long as you want. The room is interesting and full of coffee related paraphernalia. Be sure to visit the risqué toilet facilities at the rear.
Blue Mountain Coffee is at 228 Shuguang DongLu

Papa Roti
Papa Roti is a Malaysian chain of bakery/cafés which has branches across southern China, SE Asia and Australia. They are noted for their buns - especially their coffee buns. According to their Australia website, the "signature bun consists of crispy and fragrant coffee-cream coated over light and fluffy dough with a hint of a buttery filling." They also have a range of other cakes, buns etc. and can do you a coffee or I recommend their blueberry juice. They don't have many seats, but most of the clientele seem to go for take out. The Liuzhou branch is located on 金鱼巷 or Goldfish Lane, off the northern end of the main pedestrian street, with the fake KFC style fast food joint at the entrance. Papa Roti is a short way along on the other side.
