About the college

Liuzhou Teachers' College is responsible for the training of middle school teachers for all of Liuzhou Prefecture. At present there is a student population of around 6,000. The college also runs a BA programme for selected English majors who are recruited from the whole of Guangxi Province. The Department of Foreign Studies, the largest department in the college, also has a number of students majoring in Vietnamese, while Japanese is offered as a minor subject. At present, there are four foreign English teachers and three Vietnamese teachers. There are also around 50 Chinese staff catering for over 1,500 students in the department. In addition, most students studying in other departments also take English as a minor subject.

A large percentage of students is composed of minority ethnic groups such as Zhuang, Dong, Yao, etc. Many students are from poorer areas in the countryside and, on graduation , will return to their hometowns to teach.

The college has been employing foreign teachers for over fifteen years and so are well used to dealing with foreigners. The college is able to provide the documentation to enable the teachers to obtain full working visas before coming to China.

Liuzhou Teachers' College is approximately 23 kilometres from the city of Liuzhou. There is a regular bus service from the nearby village of Shatang which takes about 40 minutes. The park like setting of the college does mean that you have the best of both worlds in that you have a quiet rural college environment, but there is a reasonably cosmopolitan (by Chinese standards) city not too far away.
